Glass selection tends to be both a science and an art. It is the intent of this paper to remove the
pR~PB "mystique" surrounding glass selection, primarily based on the chromatic properties of the glass,
v#nFPB=z and to show via careful parametric analyses how we can optimally select glasses for lenses of
%GHHnf%2Z different f/numbers, spectral bands, and performance requirements. The important roles of
4q~l?*S refractive index and Abbe number as well as partial dispersion will be considered. Using the
